The DAAD is shaping the digital transition

Digitalisation offers opportunities to foster international academic relations, reflecting the DAAD’s objectives: we support the digital transformation of the higher education landscape with projects and funding programmes. We connect teachers and learners as well as researchers across borders, institutions and disciplines. We promote the development of knowledge and skills for digital internationalisation and contribute expertise to educational policy.

Digital internationalisation

Creatively using the potential of digitalisation for the internationalisation of higher education is our aim. The DAAD focuses its efforts on:

  • Strengthening academic exchange in all its forms through digital technologies and expanding exchange to include digitally supported information, teaching-learning and cooperation formats
  • Personalising information, guidance and learning services
  • Enabling exchange between education systems by making student data digitally transferable, by supporting interoperability of IT infrastructures and by working towards common standards, e.g. in quality assurance and recognition procedures.
  • Processing data to generate knowledge and make it available in order to promote the internationalisation of organisational domains in higher education, in particular teaching and learning, and to contribute to systemic change processes in these institutions.

The DAAD aims at minimising exclusionary aspects that accompany digitalisation efforts. Rather, digital internationalisation can be used as a tool to enable participation, promote diversity and contribute to sustainability.
