The CAMINOS Project was initiated to strengthen the Latin American Higher Education Space. By improving the capacity of universities, university associations and networks it aimed to enhance student and university-staff mobility. Most notably, CAMINOS responded to the fact that intra-Latin America student/staff mobility is limited and tended to happen mainly in the context of bilateral agreements between countries and university networks. Therefore, the project focused on developing a common mobility management model linking existing Latin American bi/multilateral mobility programmes.

Programme Objectives

To achieve and increase Latin American mobility CAMINOS designed three complementary phases:

1. Research Phase: Mapping of existing mobility schemes
    
2. Development Phase: Creation of a handbook including concrete advice to universities on how to enhance mobility in the region
    
3. Pilot Phase: Application of mobility programmes in relation to the developed guidelines in the handbook

Through these objectives CAMINOS specifically targeted better promotion of “structured” mobility embedded in academic programmes that reinforce institutional cooperation.

CAMINOS, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, was carried out by a Consortium formed by 28 partners from Europe and Latin America. That way cooperation between both regions was further encouraged.
